Great news! Apple approved our request for an expedited approval and accepted version 2.4.2 to the App Store. This version makes the app compatible with NCEP’s changes to the MAG server and restores model functionality. It will be available soon (if not already) as a free update in the iTunes App Store. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. And thanks to Apple for the quick response time in approving our app!

Comments Off on NCEP Upgrades Server to MAG 3.0 But Knocks Us Out
Category: App News

UPDATE 11:30 ET: We have submitted the new build to Apple and have requested expedited approval. We understand on the Android version this problem *only* impacts the RUC (RAP) model.  We are currently trying to find a software engineer to make emergency updates to the Android version as well.

.

PREVIOUS POST: On Thursday, July 25th, NCEP upgraded its MAG (Model Analysis and Guidance) server.  This is great news, but unfortunately, it caused an outage in the WeatherGeek Pro app. The URLs for the images on the server changed, making the app incompatible with this new server configuration. We are attempting to fix this issue in two ways.  First, we have contacted NCEP and requested the old URLs we were using be redirected to the new products.  This will fix the issue immediately. Second, we will be submitting new builds of the app today. Once approved, available and downloaded, this will fix the issue on a longer term basis.

.

For an even longer term solution, we are looking into hosting our own data and images.  This is the best solution as we won’t be vulnerable whenever a division of NOAA changes the configuration of its server. We had originally set out to do this, but being the very small company we are, it is difficult to fund these servers and ensure the uptime you the customer demand. However, going forward, we are going to explore this even more.  The great thing about this would be having much more control over products and maps which are produced.

.

We apologize for the problem and thank you so much for your patience while we fix this problem.

.

Sincerely,

John Gumm

Meteorologist

Creator of the WeatherGeek Pro App

Category: App News

The NOAA server which feeds images to WeatherGeek Pro is experiencing a rare, temporary outage this afternoon. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We are hopeful they will have things operational again shortly. There are upgrades being performed on their end to limit outages such as this. However, this is the first outage of its kind on the 16 month history of WeatherGeek Pro. We will pass along more as we know it.

Hurricane Baby is pleased to announce we are hard at work on version 2.0 of our app for iOS. We are going to try to implement as many of the feature requests we’ve had from you as possible. There will also be some new and exciting…first-of-a-kind data options coming as well. These will be especially useful for chasers.

Also…we are again offering the app for just 99 cents for a limited time on Android and iOS. This will be the last sale before 2.0 arrives (time TBA) and probably the last sale for a long time after 2.0 arrives. Thanks to everyone who has supported us and given us great feedback. Please spread the word if you can. The more apps we can sell in this sale, the more we’ll be able to do with added features on version 2.0.
